I have terrible handwriting (I blame my mother – her handwriting is worse). Its highly unfortunate since my lab notebooks are all written out by hand and therefore sometimes hard to read. Instead I usually type all protocols up once I have figured them out and make sure to correct anything when I return to a page that looks illegible. Also, I type much faster than I can write (don’t you?).
Robin proposed a handwriting project so you could all see the handwriting of the people you read so often. You should hop on over there and check out her amazing blog. Her stories are incredible and all typed out, so no need to try and decipher any handwriting issues.
I liked this since one’s handwriting is like a signature. Its your own personal identity. We have to label every bottle and solution in the lab and I know exactly who labeled what or who made a solution just from the label. Your handwriting is your signature and only someone who knows you well (or happens to work in a lab where you use it often) will be able to identify it.
Anyways, lets get to the project. Here are Robin’s instructions:
Write down the following, snap a picture (or scan the document), post it, and tag others.
1. Name/Blog Name
2. Right handed, left handed or both
3. Favorite letters to write
4. Least favorite letters to write
5. Write: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
6. Write in caps:
CRAB
HUMOR
KALEIDOSCOPE
PAJAMAS
GAZILLION
7. Favorite song lyrics
8. Tag 7 people
9. Any special note or drawing
Important things to note: On 5 I originally wrote cow instead of fox and had to cross it out because I read brown and figured cow was the next word in that phrase. 7 I don’t have a favorite song lyrics, mostly because I don’t know any. Except for the ones above, and to tell you the truth, I have no idea who sings it or whether they are the correct lyrics. And 9 is all the doodles I usually do when I’m at a science talk, they help me concentrate. Granted I might look silly with a page full of flowers and 3D squared.
Tagged peeps are: Helly, Hedikins, Mrs. Soup, MummaBoo, Coco, Suzy, Scott*

I don’t know who sings that song, either. But now it’s stuck in my head ; )
yeah, it was sorta stuck in mine, until I wrote it down. :)
What an interesting project. I’ll do it this week – promise! I think your handwriting is very decipherable. You should see some of the chickenscratch I’ve had to interpret in my various careers.
Oh, and I’m showing my age here, but those lyrics are from “Joy to the World”, sung by Three Dog Night. :) And now it’s stuck in MY head.
I knew someone would know which song it was! Thanks Mumma Boo (and sorry… :))
I can’t even read my own writing. I so rarely use a pen or pencil anymore. My fingers hurt after 10 words. My thoughts move to fast for me to keep up with a writing instrument.
Its amazing how well adapted we become to technology. I hope the computer works better as your writing instrument?
